Nursery introduction

Communityworks Nursery operates over 2 rooms all on the same level and all with access to our outdoor provision. The staff/child ratio is in line with government guidelines being 1:4 for 2-3s and 1:8 for 3-5s. Staffing provision also ensures adequate levels to cover breaks and circumstances that dictate additional resources. The Nursery Manager is super-numery. The Deputy Nursery Manager is part super-numery. (Super-numery means they are not included in the staffing ratios).

The Nursery is open from 9.00am until 12 noon and 1.00pm until 4.00pm, 5 days a week, term time only.

The Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Principles for children from birth to 5. Parental involvement in their children’s learning and development continues to be a key management priority. The ethos and philosophy of the Nursery is based on the five over-arching and inter-linked principles of Every Child Matters: being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic and social well-being.

As an organisation we are committed to ensuring high quality provision while encouraging local participation. We have a committee from within our Board of Directors to ensure that the Nursery provides high quality day-care. Provision is monitored and evaluated through Sustained Shared and Emotional Wellbeing Scale and Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS).The ECERS-E is an instrument for measuring quality in literacy, numeracy, science and diversity as observable in pre-school in relation to child cognitive and social/behavioural developmental outcomes for children age 3-5.

The Operational Manual covers every aspect of Nursery activity and is reviewed regularly in order to achieve best practice. The Nursery has a range of policies and procedures in place including a robust Child Protection Policy and Procedure.

All staff and any volunteers working within the Nursery are subject to an Enhanced DBS check prior to confirmation of appointment.
