Nursery introduction

Our Nursery is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. Communityworks Nursery operates over 2 rooms all on the same level and all with access to our outdoor provision. The staff/child ratio is in line with government guidelines being 1:4 for 2-3s and 1:8 for 3-5s. Staffing provision also ensures adequate levels to cover breaks and circumstances that dictate additional resources. The Nursery Manager is super-numery. The Deputy Nursery Manager is part super-numery. (Super-numery means they are not included in the staffing ratios). We have a committed long established staff team of highly qualified, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly Early Years Practitioners, that reflect the diversity of the local community.

The Nursery is open from 9.00am until 12 noon and 1.00pm until 4.00pm, 5 days a week, term time only.

The ethos and philosophy of the Nursery is to give children the very best start to their life long learning by focusing on their personal, social and emotional development, their individual learning styles and providing a high quality learning environment. The Nursery adheres to the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework (EYFS) which sets the standards for learning and development, also the care and well-being for children ages 0 to 5. We also use Development Matters a non-statutory guidance to support practitioners to implement the Early Years Foundation Stage. We also use the Early Support Development Journal to ensure that every child succeeds.

As an organisation we are committed to ensuring high quality provision while encouraging local participation. Parental involvement in their children’s learning and development continues to be a key management priority. We have a committee from within our Board of Directors to ensure that the Nursery provides high quality education and care. The quality of learning is further monitored and evaluated through an ECERS- E quality assurance tool which audits and scales how well the nursery develops Literacy, Maths and Science for children aged 3-4.

The Operational Manual covers every aspect of Nursery activity and is reviewed regularly in order to achieve best practice. The Nursery has a range of policies and procedures in place including a robust Child Protection Policy and Procedure.

All staff and any volunteers working within the Nursery are subject to an Enhanced DBS check prior to confirmation of appointment.
