What your child learns

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage. Three prime areas come first, because everything else builds on them.

Communication and language

Talking, listening, songs and stories, in English and in your child’s home language.

Physical development

Running, climbing and balancing outdoors, and the small movements that lead to holding a pencil.

Personal, social and emotional development

Making friends, sharing, understanding feelings and growing in confidence.

Children also start on the four specific areas: literacy, maths, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design.

Free places

3 and 4-year-olds: every child can have 15 free hours a week from the term after they turn 3, and up to 30 hours if you’re working.
