How we teach

Children don’t learn by having things done for them. They learn by doing things for themselves, with our guidance.

We aim to give every child the very best start to lifelong learning. We focus on their personal, social and emotional development, on the way each child learns best, and on a high-quality place to learn, indoors and out.

The early years framework

Early Years Foundation Stage

The statutory framework that sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to 5. We follow it in everything we do.

Development Matters

Guidance that helps our practitioners find the best way to work with your child, so they achieve their best while they’re with us.

Early Support Development Journal

A record of your child’s development we use alongside you, so that every child succeeds, including children who need extra help.

What the research says

Ofsted’s research review of early years education looks at what makes the biggest difference to young children’s learning.

British values in the early years

Every nursery teaches the fundamental British values. For young children, they’re about how we treat each other every day.

Democracy

Making decisions together. Children learn their views count, share them in group time, and take turns.

The rule of law

Understanding that rules matter. We agree rules with the children, such as tidying up, and talk about right and wrong.

Individual liberty

Freedom for everyone. Children grow in confidence, try new things and take safe risks, like an obstacle course.

Mutual respect and tolerance

Treating others as we want to be treated. Children learn about each other’s families, faiths and traditions.

Children with special educational needs

Children with special educational needs and disabilities are welcome here, as all children are. We work closely with you, and with any professionals who support your child, from before they start.
