Job Summary

To be responsible for the general maintenance and security of our building and small external grounds; cleaning; presentation of rooms for users; repairs and maintenance, plus health & safety obligations to ensure a safe environment.

Principal roles and responsibilities

  • To maintain and promote a clean, tidy, safe, hygienic and welcoming environment that is Covid-secure.
  • To clean the building as required by sharing the cleaning schedule along with our cleaner and covering all cleaning responsibilities in the absence of the cleaner (this would be with additional hours).
  • To ensure that furniture (and possibly equipment) is set out as required for the hall.
  • To maintain the external grounds and perimeter of the site in a safe and tidy condition.
  • To carry out regular, (in some cases daily) risk assessments throughout the building and external grounds as instructed by the CEO.
  • To report any repairs or maintenance issues to the CEO; or resolve them if possible with consultation where necessary.
  • To carry out certain repairs and modifications to the fabric of the building and external grounds.
  • To carry out all regular checks as required to conform with health and safety legislation; reporting any concerns to the CEO immediately.
  • To carry out regular checks on fire safety equipment and carry out periodic fire drills as instructed by the CEO.
  • To ensure that trade waste is ready for collection, and locked up after.
  • To maintain adequate stocks of cleaning materials
  • To receive, check and store very occasional deliveries to the site.
  • To work occasional additional hours by negotiation, if required.

20 hours at £13.45 per hour

Communityworks Appoints New CEO

My name is Vikrant Bhatia I am an experienced charity-sector leader with over 23 years’ experience in community development, strategic programme management, project delivery, fundraising, and leading organisational change across complex, multi-agency environments.

My career has been dedicated to tackling disadvantage, strengthening local capacity, and improving life chances for children, young people, and families — values that strongly align with Communityworks’ mission.

I have led a wide range of services and programmes across Leeds, Bradford, and nationally, including Better Start initiatives, community health development in inner-city neighbourhoods, youth social action, family intervention, and employment and training support for care-experienced young people, those affected by domestic violence, and young people impacted by crime and violence.

I am proud to be joining Communityworks at such an important time and look forward to working closely with partners, trustees, staff, volunteers, and residents to build on its strong foundations. I am highly motivated by the opportunity to lead the organisation into its next phase of impact, sustainability, and strategic growth.

From January 2025 Communityworks will not open the main building on a Friday until 3.30pm. Nursery will continue to be open on Fridays – just not the rest of the building. We don’t run any activities during the day until the After School Club starts at 3.30pm. Nursery parents should use their entrance as normal. Thank you.
